Mac Security Camera Software

The Mac security camera software for iDVR-E surveillance DVRs lets users view their CCTV cameras live from remotely over the Internet on a Macintosh PC. This Mac software also lets's users play back recorded video surveillance footage, export video footage to files, and control PTZ cameras.

This article will familiarize customers with the user interface, functions, and controls built into the software. You can also watch a demo video here that shows the Mac software viewing cameras live, playing back recorded video footage, and exporting recorded video to disk.


Video Surveillance DVRs

The CMSlite software for Mac is designed to work with iDVR CCTV DVRs from CCTV Camera Pros. The software can connect to current and legacy iDVR models. The above image will help users identify the models that this app will work with. The top image is the first generation iDVR-E. The middle image is the current iDVR-E which is a hybrid DVR that works with analog CCTV cameras and also HD CCTV cameras (AHD security cameras). The bottom DVR is the legacy D1 realtime iDVR-RT16. Users with multiple DVR locations can access all of their DVRs from the app and can have a mix of both current and legacy models.


Mac Software Controls

The above screen shows the live camera viewing screen of the Mac software for iDVR. The main menu is noted in green. The screen grid layout menu is noted in red. The camera selector is noted in orange and the PTZ camera controls view pop-out selector is noted in blue.

  • Screen Layout - users select different camera grid layouts depending on the number of channels their DVR supports (4, 8, and 16 camera models available).
  • PTZ Controls - users can click on these arrows to reveal the pan tilt zoom camera controls.
  • Camera Selector - when the app is in single camera view, users can select which camera is displayed on the screen by clicking on the camera number.
  • Main Menu
    1. Live - Open the live security camera view / screen.
    2. Remote Search - Open the search screen to search recorded video on the remote DVR.
    3. Local Search - Open the search screen to search DVR files that have been backed up to the Mac.
    4. Open Backup - Open a backup file. You can learn more about backup file playback here.
    5. Device Setup - Open the setup / configuration menu on the remote DVR.
    6. Record - Capture a recording from the remote DVR and save it to a file on the Mac.
    7. Capture - Capture a still image screenshot of the camera(s) that are currently displayed on the screen and save it to a file on the Mac.
    8. Full Screen - Expand the app into full screen on the Mac.

PTZ Camera Controls

When the menu arrows are clicked in the upper right of the screen, the PTZ controls are shows. These controls let users move pan tilt zoom cameras up, down, left, right, zoom in, zoom out, access the camera's menu system, go to preset locations, and access any other functions that a PTZ camera has.


Recorded Video Search

When a user clicks on the remote search button or the local search button, the above search screen opens. If the user clicked on remote search, then recorded video segments from the DVRs hard drive are displayed. Continuous recordings are noted in orange and event recordings (such as motion detection) are noted in red. If the user clicked on local search, the software displays the recorded video segments that have been backed up to a file location on the Macintosh computer. The user can select the month, day, hour, and minute of the video that they want to playback.

When the user clicks the playback button on the search screen (after selecting the time and date that they want to play), the above video playback screen opens. The user can use the player controls in the lower right (noted in orange) to play the video in forward and reverse at normal and fast speeds.
