Export & Playback Recorded Video Surveillance on Mac
with the Macintosh Network Software for iDVR-PRO Security Camera DVRs
iDVR-PRO CCTV / HD security camera DVRs include Mac network software that lets users remotely connect to their surveillance system to view their security cameras live, playback recorded video, and backup recorded video. This article will provide instructions on how to use the Macintosh software to export a segment of recorded video footage so that it can be played back from the VLC media player software for Mac. If you do not yet own an iDVR-PRO DVR, you can download and playback a sample exported video on your Mac here.
These instructions assume that you already have the Mac software installed on your computer and that the DVR connection is already configured. If that is not already done, please refer to the
Mac software setup instructions here. Please note that you may be connected to your DVR on your local network or remotely over the Internet to export recorded video.
Once you are connected to your DVR, follow these instructions.
- Click on the "Search" tab in the upper left.
- Click on the Backup button in the lower right.
- The Backup window will open.
On the Backup screen, do the following.
- Enter the Start Time and End Time of the video footage that you want to backup / export.
- Select the security camera channels that you want video exported from.
- Click on the "Path" button to select the folder location that you want the export files backed up to.
How-to Play the Exported Video on Mac
The technical support team at CCTV Camera Pros has found that the VLC player is the most reliable video player to play exported video files from iDVR-PRO DVRs. You can
download the latest VLC player for Mac here.
Once the VLC player is installed, you can use the Finder application on your Mac to browse to the location of the exported video file(s). There will be more than one if you chose to export more than one camera(s) footage.
Right-click on the video file and select Open With -> VLC.
The VLC player will open and begin playing back your surveillance footage.
If you want to experience the high quality of video exports from Mac before you decide to buy an iDVR-PRO,
download exported video surveillance footage here. This is an actual video backup from the DVR that CCTV Camera Pros uses at our warehouse in West Palm Beach, Florida. Save the file to the hard drive on your Mac. If you have not already done so, download the VLC player for Mac here.
Use the Finder application on your Mac to browser to the video file that you downloaded. Right-click on the video file and select Open With -> VLC.

Did you know? CCTV Camera Pros can provide a complete surveillance system quote that includes any iDVR-PRO model with cameras, cables, connectors, power supplies, and monitors? We can even mix and match SD and HD security cameras because the latest iDVR-PROs are hybrid. They work with CCTV, AHD, and HD-TVI type cameras. As you have probably already seen on our website, we have 2, 4, 8, and 16 camera surveillance systems in pre-made packages. However, it is not possible for us to package up every combination and quantity of all the different camera models that we carry. So, we can also provide you with a custom quote with as many cameras as you need and a mix of any combination of camera model(s) based on your project requirements.
