Surveillance DVR Video Search & Playback

JP Surveillance System DVRThe JPEG2000 & Dual Codec surveillance DVRs that CCTV Camera Pros supplies allow the DVR operator to search for video footage and play it back to view it.  There are three methods to search for video. They are search bar search, time/date search, and event list search.

      • Search Bar Search - this method of search displays on the screen the start time and date and the end time and date of the first and last video recording currently on the hard drive of the DVR.  Using the DVRs jog / shuttle wheel, the DVR user can turn the know to adjust the search bar greater and less which in turn adjusts the selected date.  One you have the time and date selected that you want to view, you can press the OK (enter) key to jump to that specific time and date to view the  surveillance video that was captured at that time.

      • Time / Date Search - this method of video search also displays the begin and and date of the DVRs current recordings and allows the user to select the specific date and time that they want to view using arrow and + / - buttons on the DVR or the DVR remote.

      • Event List - the event list displays a list of motion detected events and other events as well as the time and date that they occured.  The DVR user can select the event that they want to view to jump to that specific event.

The below instructions will show you how to access the above described video search methods and use them to search and play surveillance video on your DVR.


  1. On your DVR or the DVR remote control, press the Search button to access the search menu.
  2. The Search menu will be displayed and will give you the following choices: Search Bar, Time/Date, Event List.  Using the up/down arrows on the DVR or remote, select the method of search that you want to use. Each method is explained separately below.

Search Bar Search

Follow these instructions to perform a search bar search on your DVR.

  1. Select Search Bar by using the up and down arrows on your DVR to select Search Bar and press OK (enter).  The search bar screen will be displayed as seen below.

  2. Use the jog / shuttle wheel on your DVR to adjust the red search bar right and left.  This will adjust the selected time and date.  When you are on a time and date that you want to view, press the OK (Enter) button on your DVR.
  3. Your DVR will switch to playback mode and begin playing the recorded video at that time and date on the screen.
  4. You may now use the fast-forward, reverse, pause, play controls on your DVR or remote to control the direction and speed of the surveillance video playback.

Time / Date Search

  1. By using the up and down arrows on your DVR or remote, select Time / Date from the search menu and press OK (enter).  The Time / Date search screen will be displayed as seen below.

  2. Using the right and left arrows on your DVR or remote select the year, month, day, and time that you want to view.  You select each part of the date using the right and left arrows, then using the +/ - button on the DVR or remote you can increase and decrease the date.  To move the date faster, you can also use the jog / shuttle wheel on the DVR.
  3. Once you have the date selected, press the OK or Enter button on your DVR.  The DVR will switch to playback mode and begin playing the surveillance video on that selected date and time.
  4. You may now use the fast-forward, reverse, pause, play controls on your DVR or remote to control the direction and speed of the surveillance video playback.

Motion Event List Search

  1. Using the up and down arrows on your DVR or remote, select Event List from the search menu and press OK (enter).  The Event List screen will be displayed as seen below.

  2. Using the up and down arrows on your DVR or remote, select the event that you want to view, then press Enter or OK.
  3. The DVR will switch to playback mode and begin playing the surveillance video that was recorded during the event that you selected.
  4. You may now use the fast-forward, reverse, pause, play controls on your DVR or remote to control the direction and speed of the surveillance video playback.
During playback mode, you can stop playing the video and switch back to live security camera view at any time by clicking on the stop button on your DVR or wireless remote control.
