Description

The HD-BX50 is a 10x Zoom HD over coax security camera that supports AHD, HD-TVI, HDCVI, and analog CCTV video modes. This box camera captures high definition video surveillance at 1920 x 1080 resolution (2-megapixel). The HD-BX50 has a built-in 6 ~ 50mm lens with a 10x optical zoom that can be controlled by a DVR. Check out this sample surveillance video and images to see a demo of this camera.

The HD-BX50 is hard wired to a DVR using RG59 coaxial cable. As with all HD security cameras, they must be used with an HD compatible DVR.

The HD-BX50 supports UTC (up the coax) for the zoom controls and access to the OSD menu. UTC is an alternative to the old method of using RS-485. RS-485 is NOT supported by this camera. The lens zoom can be controlled via UTC or using the joystick control on the back of the camera. UTC transmits the zoom and menu system controls over the same RG59 cable used for video (so there is no need to run an additional pair of cable). You must use an HD security camera DVR with UTC support to use this feature.

For use in low light environments, this camera has a Black and White Lux rating of 0.001. The IR Cut Filter enhances the image quality by blocking any unusable infrared lighting and only allowing the visible light to pass through. This also allows the HD-BX50 to be used with external infrared illuminators for environments with little to no ambient lighting.

Important Note: Although this camera supports analog CCTV mode, CCTV Camera Pros does not recommend using the camera in this mode. The UTC function for zoom and OSD operations does not work in analog mode. Also, the video quality is not very good in analog mode. We do highly recommend using this camera in the 1080p AHD, 1080p HD-TVI, and 1080p HDCVI video modes that it supports.

This camera is typically connected to a CCTV DVR to record video surveillance. However, if you would like to connect this security camera to a TV instead of recording, please refer to this BNC to HDMI converter add-on. You can select it from the options drop-down above.

Zoom Lens Surveillance Images

These images were captured using an HD-BX50 connected to an iDVR-PRO surveillance DVR. The images are 1080p HD resolution. Click on the images for the full-sized view.

AHD Zoom Box Camera with 1080p HD Resolution

This first image was captured with the motorized lens zoomed out to the widest position. The small words on the side of that truck are 62 feet away from where the camera is mounted.

HD-TVI Zoom Box Camera with 1080p HD Resolution

The above image shows the PTZ controls on the DVR that are used to control the zoom in/out functions of the camera. The up arrow on the PTZ controls zooms the camera lens in and the down arrow zooms the lens out.

HDCVI Zoom Box Camera with 1080p HD Resolution

This last image shows the angle of view when the lens is zoomed all the way into the 50mm / 10x zoom level. You can see that the camera easily focuses on the words displayed on the truck 62 feet away.

Joystick for OSD Access and Lens Zoom Controls

HD Box Security Camera OSD and Lens Zoom Controls

This image shows the back of the HD-BX50. The joystick on the camera serves two purposes. 1) It is used to access the camera's OSD (on-screen display) to adjust color, light, and many other settings. 2) The joystick can also be used to adjust the zoom / angle of view of the lens in and out. Many customers do not use this camera to actively zoom the lens in/out. Instead, they use the zoom lens as a convenience during setup to get the exact angle they need. The advantage of this mechanical zoom lens is that it auto-focuses. When using a security camera test monitor, one installer can easily adjust the view focus this camera during installation

Other customers do find the ability to zoom in/out using controls on their DVR convenient.

4-in-1 Selectable Video Mode

By default, the HD-BX50 is configured in 1080p AHD mode. If you are using an iDVR-PRO DVR or another AHD compatible DVR, you do not need to adjust the mode. If you do need to change the video mode, it can be switched to HD-TVI, HDCVI, or analog CCTV (CVBS) modes via the OSD (on-screen display). The OSD can be accessed using the joystick on the back of the camera or via UTC DVR controls (if using a UTC compatible DVR such as iDVR-PRO). UTC (up the coax) controls allow a user to access the camera's OSD menu using the PTZ controls on the DVR.

To change video modes, access the OSD menu of the camera and select adjust.

4-in-1 HD over Coax OSD Selector

The above image shows the OSD of the camera being accessed via the PTZ controls on an iDVR-PRO. If you are using an iDVR-PRO or another DVR that supports UTC controls, you can access the OSD of the camera by clicking on the "open iris" PTZ command (red arrow above notes this). Or you can send a preset-95 command (notes with the yellow arrow). Either one opens the OSD menu and also acts as the select command. Use the up / down arrows (noted in the green box) on the DVR's PTZ screen to move the selection of the OSD to "Adjust", then select that the adjust submenu by clicking on the "open iris" command or sending a preset-95 command.

You can also use the joystick on the back of the camera to navigate the OSD to select adjust.

4-in-1 HD-CCTV AHD HDCVI HD-TVI analog

On the "Adjust" screen, use the Up/Down arrows to select "Monitor Out". Then use the Right/Left arrows to change the video mode. Last use the "open iris", preset-95, or center button (if you are using the joystick directly on the camera) to apply that video mode. Select Ret (return). Then Save and Exit.

Outdoor Camera Housing

For outdoor installations, the HD-BX50 can be mounted in an outdoor box camera housing. Because this camera has a built-in zoom lens, the size of the camera is much smaller than traditional box-style cameras. This allows the camera to easily fit into our compact outdoor housing for box security cameras.

Zoom Box Camera in Outdoor Housing

For extremely hot or cold weather conditions, installers can also use this outdoor camera housing with heater and fan.
