The below diagram illustrates the VDS-1008 being used to split the video signal from a CCTV camera so that the video can be displayed on 8 different monitors. If this camera was positioned at the front door of an apartment building, for example, each of those monitors / TVs could be in a tenants apartment. The surveillance video would be sent to each apartment using standard RG59 or RG6 coaxial cable and input into an RCA video input on a standard television. When the tenant wants to check who is at the door, they would simply switch their TV/monitor to the video input of the camera and the video from the camera would be displayed in full screen on their TV.

This is one example use of the VDS-1008. In reality, each of the 8 outputs can be a different type of device including TVs, monitors, and surveillance DVRs.
